Avant Gardner is the top of New York’s nightlife scene, especially since the music mecca was nominated for 2019 Best Club at the International Dance Music Awards.
Billy Bildstein’s awe-inspiring Avant Gardner first made its mark in the summer of 2017, nestled within East Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
This super venue has become New York City’s go-to spot for nightlife entertainment – the exterior composed entirely of solid gray concrete oozes a powerful fortress aesthetic.
Inside Avant Gardner is an 80,000-square-foot venue complex that includes Brooklyn Mirage, The Great Hall, The King’s Hall, and The Lost Circus. Brooklyn Mirage’s design was inspired by a Wu-Tang Clan music video, with multiple layers ascending until glimpses of the New York skyline are seen.
Avant Gardner New York features a unique, modular design that allows multiple events to take place simultaneously.
It’s no shock that this Brooklyn-based entertainment venue is one of the most celebrated partying destinations around the world, with a star-studded lineup of internationally renowned DJs such as deadmau5, Tchami, AC Slater, Skrillex, Porter Robinson and Diplo.
Avant Gardner continues to host star-studded DJs from the electronic scene, as both locals and international tourists visit this raging Williamsburg venue to experience the show of a lifetime. This complex features a KV2 sound system, pyrotechnic capabilities, 3D visual mapping technology, and laser lights to create a spectacular atmosphere.
Avant Gardner is the epicenter of electronic beats. Its renowned DJs, massive festival-like atmosphere, and irresistible music make it unbeatable.
Here is everything you need to know about Avant Gardner New York.
The Avant Gardner complex is a pro at delivering an endless range of nightlife experiences, featuring four unique venues, each with a distinct aesthetic and clubbing concept.
The outdoor area, also dubbed the Brooklyn Mirage, is an open-space area that opens its doors during the summeresque season. Oozing a rooftop bar vibe, Brooklyn Mirage features a castle-like structure embellished with palm trees and equipped with a KV2 audio system.
Besides embodying an Ibizan feeling, this bad boy offers jaw-dropping views over the ritzy Manhattan.
The Great Hall is more about the Brooklyn warehouse vibe. This Avant Gardner venue showcases an industrial aesthetic, highlighted by the exposed beams and brick walls. It is equipped with a hypnotic lighting system and a two-level platform that overlooks the mammoth dance floor.
Compared to those two venues’ enormous structures, Kings Hall creates a sense of intimacy thanks to the minimal lighting and hanging chandeliers. During daytime, natural light flows through the glass ceiling panels, making it the go-to place for smaller events, such as wedding celebrations or private galas.
The Lost Circus is an elegantly designed space soaked in 20s aesthetics. This space features table seating, mirrored walls, and a wood-slatted dance floor. A rather small stage where musicians perform is also included in the package.
Avant Gardner is structured and designed to allow each venue to operate independently. It comes as no surprise that when you set foot in the New York super club, your nightlife choices become endless.
Every clubber is unique – and Avant Gardner seems to tap into that. By featuring four distinct spaces, this partying destination leveled up the clubbing game with its sheer enormousness. Although Avant Gardner is dubbed as the go-to New Yorkian space for unforgettable raves, it can run multiple events simultaneously.
With a space that covers 80,000 square meters divided into three indoor areas and an outdoor clubbing oasis, the massive club can accommodate up to 6,000 people.
Avant Gardner features a jaw-dropping space – even by New York standards. If you feel like festivaling in Brooklyn’s heart, this clubbing destination is going to satisfy for your hardcore festie needs.
Avant Gardner had its fair share of bumpy roads, unforeseen obstacles, and seemingly unbreakable deadlocks.
Introduced as an on-and-off party destination in 2015, the club was about to open its doors the following year.
But the plans fell through when New York authorities accused the venue of selling alcohol without a license and lacking an effective evacuation structure.
At that time, Brooklyn Paper reported that police officers busted the nightclub selling booze without a liquor licence – ouch. A few lobbying changes later, Avant Gardner bagged its liquor license, which allowed the clubbing destination to serve alcohol outdoors after midnight.
As the epitome of New York’s electronic scene, Avant Gardner is all about bringing roaring names from the DJing realm to its audio decks. Skrillex, Tale Of Us, and deadmau5 are just a few of the electronic heroes that kept the nights going at Avant Gardner.
But mainstream music names such as Christina Aguilera and Porter Robinson are not out of the picture either. Whatever your music preferences are, this New York club probably has it covered.
In a city where clubbing sessions end prematurely, Avant Gardner introduced a rather unique partying concept. Its brainchild, The Cityfox Odyssey event, is a night-into-day-into-night experience that runs from 9 PM on New Year’s Eve until 11:59 PM on New Year’s Day every year.
Despite its Berlin-inspired clubbing concept, everyone in the New York metropolis seemed to embrace it – so much that the event became a yearly habit.
Featuring extended sets and a plethora of artists, The Cityfox Odyssey quickly morphed into New York’s ultimate crowd-pleaser.
Avant Gardner might not be a big fan of strict door policies, but that doesn’t mean you should take admission for granted. Flip-flops and sportswear are a no-go. For a secured shoo-in, opt for a casual but trendy look.
But it depends a lot on the event you’re attending. While The Great Hall has a more laid-back vibe thanks to its industrial warehouse look, Brooklyn Mirage is more upscale, so slacks and collared shirts are mandatory.
With an elaborate nightlife playground consisting of four independent venues, Avant Gardner embodies the quintessential New York nightlife by throwing a dynamic schedule and diverse music repertoire into the mix.
