Citizen Dallas opened its doors in 2015

A fresh-faced figure in Dallas’ nightlife, Citizen first opened its doors in 2015 as the first of a bar fleet owned by Milkshake Concepts. 

Through Citizen, the hospitality monolith wanted to mesh the tranquility of a lounge with a nightclub’s high-energy environment. 

“The concept of it being an old house lends to a little bit of that feeling,” one of the co-founders said in a 2015 Dallas Morning News interview.

The club wasn’t always in Deep Ellum

When the nightclub first opened, it sat on Fairmont Street in uptown Dallas. 

Fast forward to 2021, Citizen traded the glitzy neighborhood for a historical building in the Swiss Avenue district. 

Known for its rich and unapologetic traditionalism, the district was the perfect home for Citizen’s down-to-earth yet snazzy vibe.

In other words, Citizen’s capacity is rather modest compared to other US clubs – it can only hold up to 300 clubbers.
