Große Freiheit 36, which translates to ‘Great Freedom,’ is where the music sets you free and unleashes the inner party animal kept tame.

The club / music venue, nestled in the central district of St.Pauli, has been delivering wild parties and stellar performances since 1985.

With over 80 years of history, the building housing Große Freiheit 36 today was home to Hippodrom, a club that had gained fame in Hans Albers’ films in the 1940s.

Karl-Hermann Günther, the founder of Große Freiheit 36, had to defy the odds to start his club when St. Pauli’s area was considered contaminated after World War ll.

Spanning a spacious space, Große Freiheit 36 features a mezzanine, a performance stage, and lights sprawling in all directions over the roomy dance floor. While its sister club, Kaiserkeller, is tucked in the basement, you will find a laid-back restaurant on the upper floor, offering a break from the raucous party.

Over the years, Große Freiheit 36 has witnessed its share of iconic artists from The Killers, Coldplay, Wyclef Jean, and Black Eyed Peas, delivering outstanding rock, hip-hop, and alternative performances. The Hamburg gem does not play around when it comes to fiery parties blasting electronic beats and pop hits.

Bringing together different vibes, the club / music venue is a magnet for young people with different tastes.

Große Freiheit 36 is perfectly fashioned for concerts with a massive disco ball hanging overhead, swirling theatrical fog, and top-notch lighting and sound system.
