Fusion Festival is a multi-day music and arts event showcasing a mixture of various cultures.

Launched in 1999, the festival is organised by non-profit association Kulturkosmos. An annual four-day getaway and a summer fan, Fusion happens every June.

Scoring a unique location, the music event takes over Müritz Airpark, a former military airport in Lärz, northeastern Germany.

Committed to satisfying every music fans’ taste, Fusion features a multi-genre approach when curating lineups. A mix of techno, trance, dub, and experimental music makes attendees return every year for more.

Fusion Festival releases the lineup a week before the event to keep music lovers on their toes. But booking your festival pass is not like taking a leap of faith because the event never disappoints when it comes to lineups.

Here’s everything you need to know about Fusion Festival.

Fusion Festival lights up the stage with top DJs

Although Fusion hosts various forms of art, such as theatre, performance art, and cinema, music remains the center of attention. With an outstanding lineup of local and international DJs, the festival calls at all underground and elusive artists.

Hard to catch and even harder to score, music heroes like Pan-Pot, Carlita, Victor Ruiz, Oliver Koletzki, and Julian Jeweil have all been part of Fusion’s music schedule.

The festival features several stages

More than 20 different stages entertain music loves at Fusion. While most of these stages are dedicated to electronic music sessions, others are designed to host top bands and artists. Lesser known bands play at the smaller stages.

Although Fusion is not big on stage design, some visuals are awe-inspiring. From circus-like tents to beautiful art installations, the festival’s aesthetics are the chef’s kiss.

Kulturkosmos, a non-profit association, has been hosting Fusion Festival since its first edition in 1999.

The association brings together people whose life realities, professions, and hobbies differ profoundly. But one mission unites them – to reach an ideal of a self-determined life, away from the capitalistic restraints.

Many of the members work in the field of arts and culture, while others come from completely different backgrounds.

Festival-goers can bring their own instruments

What could be better than hearing first-rate musicians setting the world on fire with their instruments? Well, ripping out some rhythms on your own.

Although the main music genre featured at Fusion Festival is electronic, there is no music style restriction as festival-goers can bring their own instruments.

The festival does not make a profit from the drinks

Fusion is one of the few events where you can drink for a good cause.

The festival features several bars managed by different groups and collectives with a subcultural, left-wing, or artistic background. Naturally, this means that Fusion doesn’t make revenues private from selling drinks.

With each drink purchased, you are contributing to a solidarity story, a cultural initiative, or a political movement.

Fusion is compared to top festivals worldwide

Far from being a mainstream music festival, the event is dominated by an avant-gardist attitude and, as the name implies, a melding of arts. Often referred to as Burning Man‘s European version, Fusion goes beyond music acts.

It allows festival-goers to socialize freely while sharing their love for music and art.An aesthete at heart, the festival features various art forms like performing arts, static artworks, sculptures, and art cars.

The festival offers jobs and volunteer opportunities

As the festival grew over the years, event organizers needed more helping hands. This is why Kulturkosmos hires staff to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Aside from job opportunities, volunteers can also participate in the event. Every edition, volunteers gather weeks before the festival to handle the preparations.

Fusion Festival has party breaks

Those who would like to discover the various areas that the festival boasts without missing any music sessions can benefit from the Party Breaks, also known as “Feierpause.”

During this period, the main stage shuts down, and festival-goers are encouraged to explore Fusion beyond the music. However, attendees can also head to the smaller stages for an extra dose of music.

Fusion Festival 2019 was on the verge of being canceled

Following an untoward incident in the festival’s history, the police and festival organizers had a bit of a disagreement in 2019. The police requested its presence with undercover policemen on-site to ensure the safety of festival attendees.

But Fusion didn’t want to hear about it. Organizers argued that the presence of unmarked cops would go against the festival’s concept of artistic freedom. This disagreement sparked a conflict between the police and the organizers, almost canceling the 2019 edition.
