The last call will come sooner for Miami Beach’s nightlife venues as city commissioners banned alcohol sales after 2 AM in the SoBe area. Under the new alcohol ban, supermarkets, bars, and nightclubs like LIV and Story will stop serving drinks after the curfew.
The restrictions will apply to all businesses south of Miami Beach’s 16th Street from 7th March. Bars with a capacity of less than 100 are an exception, as they will still be able to serve alcohol after 2 AM.
City officials said the alcohol ban aims to crack down on crime, noise, and wild partying during Spring Break. According to Mayor Dan Gelber, the cut-off aims to keep SoBe safe and orderly amid the early spring holidays’ chaos.
In a statement, Gelber called the move “a good step towards getting rid of the anything-goes party” but “only a single step.”
The alcohol ban is the first legislation restricting Miami’s liquor sales since 2021. Back then, Miami Beach residents passed a referendum asking for the 5 AM last call to be rolled back.
LIV’s sister venue Story is likely to file a legal challenge to prevent the alcohol ban. It wouldn’t be the first time when the Miami club does so, as it saved Miami Beach from the 2 AM alcohol curfew last year.
