In a grand display of innovation and creativity, French DJ Michael Canitrot is redefining historical heritage with his Monumental Tour. Since its 2019 inception, the electronic-fueled event series has traveled across France and beyond to bridge the gap between music, new technologies, and architectural gems.
Sponsored by the French National Commission for UNESCO, the Monumental Tour gives landmarks like Palais Royal and Laon Cathedral another life as electronic playgrounds.
With the help of video-mapping and light shows, the facades of those cultural heritages become projection screens for mind-blowing visuals.
Monumental Tour gained international traction for its offbeat way of injecting time-honored architecture with new-age tech. But this fusion of past and future does more than just entertain – it aims to raise awareness.
As electronic music enthusiasts flock to these storied venues, they are not passive spectators, but participants in a larger narrative. Through the spectacle of video-mapping and heart-thumping beats, Monumental Tour points out the importance of preserving cultural legacies for future generations.
Attracting thousands of attendees, the Monumental Tour is headlined by Michael Canitrot, with upcoming DJs warming up the stage.
Most of the events use French landmarks listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as Chantilly Castle and Mont-Saint-Michel. However, the festivities go beyond France’s borders, as demonstrated by the previous takeover at Lisbon City Hall.
In 2022, the Institut de France awarded the Monumental Tour and its creator with the Coup de Coeur prize for History & Heritage.
This year, the series of events will continue at Maillezais Abbey on July 7th, move to Stanislas Square on September 15th, and culminate at the Royal Castle of Blois on September 29th.
