It’s hard to imagine that an alcoholic drink coined the “Blackout Rage Gallon” – or borg – can have any health benefits. But college students label the TikTok drinking trend a frat house party staple.

Made with half water, half vodka, a caffeinated flavor enhancer and a dash of powdered electrolytes, the viral borg has been hailed as a hangover-free drinking experience.

Since its debut on social media, the boozy trend has flooded TikTok’s FYP. With 68.7 million views on TikTok, the plastic gallon container became an omnipresent power in college campuses across the US.

Students share their borg concoctions on the video-based platform, giving viewers tips on making their own borg.

According to TikTok videos, borgs keep you hydrated through its H2O component, flavors make it easier to drink, and electrolytes are a foolproof hangover cure.

Since the drinker is responsible for how much alcohol goes into the plastic jug, the Blackout Rage Gallon can live up to its name.

While a liquor shot stands at 40ml, a traditional borg contains almost 2 liters of pure alcohol.

Health experts pointed out that the drinking trend can do more harm than good despite promoting a harm reduction strategy.

Dr. Pantea Farahmand told Healthline that the borg drink goes way beyond the safe drinking guidelines, adding that it “can kill someone.”

“Who really cares about additional electrolytes being added? It won’t cancel out the amount of damage alcohol can do.”
