Club Soda came to life when techno sounds monopolized Berlin

The Berlin we know today is not far from its 1999 version. The German capital was a hotspot for what it used to call “techno tourists,” after-hours hubs were everything that party animals paid heed to, and clubbing meccas like Ostgut monopolized Berlin’s clubland.

Founding a music-fuelled discotheque that didn’t follow the pattern was synonymous with a total bust – but that rule didn’t apply for Soda Club.

Since 1999, the Berlinesque hotspot has been livin’ la Vida Loca with foot-tapping rhythms and a relentless commitment to bringing a dash of Latino to the city’s only-techno sphere.

There is no lie in saying that among roaring names like Watergate, Berghain, and Tresor, Soda Club would have felt, sounded, and acted like an outcast. Both local and international clubbers perceived it like that – but in the good sense of it.

Over the years, Berlin’s Soda Club solidified its status as a breath of fresh air in the city’s electronic-loaded atmosphere.

Soda Club found shelter in the trendy neighborhood of Prenzlauer Berg

Also known as a former proletarian-dissident area where the GDR (German Democratic Republic) police wouldn’t set foot, Prenzlauer Berg kitted out a lusted-after nirvana for Berlin’s alternative crowd.

In the post-wall world, the northern Berlin district was an urban playground for a big chunk of the social spectrum’s facades.

Although it served as the go-to area for the ’90s flower children, it was subject to a slow – yet steady – gentrification, which shaped it as an urban neighborhood.

The cityscape still speaks of a bygone area, as most residential lots were constructed after World War II in a Socialist Classicism architectural style.

Although the area is brimming with restaurants serving traditional German cuisine and hippie cafes that attract tourists like a magnet, Prenzlauer Berg houses over 300 historical monuments – such as the Pfefferberg brewery – making it a hotspot for cultural sightseeing.

It is one of Berlin’s largest clubs

Featuring industrial architecture, Soda Club Berlin is a pro at creating a cozy and feel-good atmosphere. Imposing brick walls and high ceilings are all thanks to its mother building – Kulturbrauerei, a former beer brewery.

Translating into a “brewery of cultures,” the historical monument embodies a jaw-dropping versatile area of 25,000 square meters, which now fosters over 20 buildings.

Soda Club spans a crumb of it. With 1,500 square meters, five rooms, and an outdoor terrace, it ranks among the largest nightclubs in Berlin. Not larger than the ubiquitous Berghain, but enough to deliver an airy clubbing experience.

What is eye-catching and befitting is how Soda Club seamlessly meshes two juxtaposing themes. On one hand, the raw, industrial appeal of Kulturbrauerei has been kept intact as an ode to the 19th-century architectural style.

On the other hand – or rather all over the place – Soda Club’s chic decor, which translates into swank wall patterns, neon-tinged signs, and waterfall chandeliers, creates the oomph effect.

While most rooms are about the clubbing fair with expansive dance floors and vibrant bars, some have a laid-back vibe. The Pool and Cigars billiard lounge is scattered with vintage sofas, bar stools, and cushioned chairs for those who need a proper time off.

All rooms are connected in a way that allows you to move freely without plaguing their individual allure.

Although Soda Club has almost nothing in common with most Berlin clubs, there is a decor element that will instantly remind you of Watergate – a vertical catwalk of lights streaming from one room’s end to the other.

Salsa sounds in Berlin sound like a myth – but not at Soda Club

Depending on the day and dance floor – remember, Soda Club has many of them – the Berlin nightlife destination gives prominence to a versatile music repertoire. Club anthems, commercial crossovers, and house music classics are part of the picture.

But no nightclub can be impartial enough when it comes to its soundtrack – there is always a music genre that needs to outdo the others.

Soda Club is known for bringing together urban sounds with Latino rhythms on the same dance floor, with a soft spot for salsa and bachata.

Besides the staple hip-hop and R&B hits, the Berlin nightlife hub is the go-to place for moving your hips to Latin beats. Every Thursday and Sunday, the place blasts enough Latin music to last you a year.

No salsa moves in your pocket? Berlin’s Soda Club has you covered

We already know that Soda Club religiously celebrates salsa and Cuban dances. The clubbing spot really does it with class (or classes, to be more precise).

If you feel like your dancing skills are a little bit rusty when it comes to salsa rhythms, Soda Club’s claw is there to catch you. Before the party starts, the Berlin club does a bit of warm-up with trainers and dancers that initiate you in the Latin dance art.
