Pepper Spray Attacks Ruin Attendees’ Experience at Time Warp Festival

Trouble marred Germany’s Time Warp this Saturday as pepper spray incidents threw off festival-goers. One attendee took to Reddit to share his experience, saying he ran away from the dance floor when his eyes, nose, and mouth started burning intensely. 

According to the user, a sudden pepper spray attack occurred on Saturday night at the main stage during Amelie Lens’ set. When he started to feel the burning, he turned around to notice other festival-goers fleeing the dance floor. 

“In panic I just ran away covering my mouth. Completely threw me off and I couldn’t get back into the groove of things for the rest of the night.”

While some netizens pointed out that pepper spray is a commonly-used security measure to disperse crowds, other users said it might have been a pickpocketing trick. 

The festival-goer also points out that security “was a joke” as they “had one look in my bag and patted me on the waist once.” But pepper spray wasn’t the only issue at Time Warp, as other attendees said there were so many people that exiting the building was “nearly impossible.” 

Mannheim’s police have yet to comment on the issue.
