Waregemse Metal Days, a three-day music festival in Belgium, announced it needs to pull the plug on its 2022 edition. In an official statement, festival organizers attributed the abrupt cancellation to Festicket’s moratorium.

The metal festival was supposed to take place between the 9th and 11th of December, but Festicket’s abrupt collapse left a hole in Waregemse Metal Days’ wallet. Organizers said that the lack of income put a barrier between them and the desire to organize a festival that will follow the WDM standards.

“We would have been honored to organize WMD for the fans, the conditions the moratorium of Festicket have put our company under sadly decided otherwise.”

The statement further adds that all tickets will be refunded before the end of the year.

The whole Festicket saga began in August when the UK-based festival ticketing platform filed for a moratorium in a bid to save itself from financial collapse.

In September, ticket exchange platform Lyte announced it annexed certain assets from Event Genius, an end-to-end platform service acquired by Festicket.

According to a Companies House filing, the company owed £22.5m before entering administration. Festicket’s financial struggle took a toll on many festivals and event-organizing companies, as events like Borderline Music and Arts Festival had to cancel their editions.
