Big Sound Festival is one of the latest addition to the live music industry, putting urban and upbeat sounds on a pedestal.

When it made its grand debut in 2021, the music festival chose a versatile space in Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, Valencia, as its home.

Being an annual event, the fest returns every July with roaring lineups and foolproof beats.

Festival-goers can expect local urban sounds from Big Sound’s music schedule. Whether it’s trap beats, smooth R&B vocals, or funky reggaeton, the Spanish festival has a soft spot for free-spirited sounds.

Featuring the hottest names in the local music scene – from viral sensation Bad Gyal to the trap prince Don Patricio – the festival’s mix of artists keeps the party going. Although most of the crowds are Spanish, international globetrotters book their one-way tickets to Valencia for Big Sound.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Big Sound festival.

Big Sound Festival is a rookie event

Although most festivals have been in the industry for decades, Big Sound is proof that a legacy isn’t enough to keep yourself afloat.

Its first edition took place in 2021, when live events were struggling to bounce back from the COVID-19 effect. Spread across three days, it took place at Estadi Ciutat de València, the city’s football stadium home to.

Since it was held in the aftermath of pandemic, Big Sound festival had to respond to multiple changes in dates, restrictions, and capacity.

But the festival debut managed to run smoothly, with national artists such as reggaeton star Chema Rivas, electronic duo Mueveloreina, and the soulful Paul Cendejas.

The festival showcases Spain’s urban sounds

Big Sound Festival dedicates itself to showing off local urban music. But not just any type of urban music. Tapping into a rather unexplored market, the music event mainly focuses on local talent.

Festival-goers can look forward to various genres, like Latin pop, reggaeton, trap, hip-hop, R&B, and more.

In 2021, there was also a sprinkle of pop-rock thanks to Sandra Groove and electronic beats courtesy of JT.

At Big Sound festival, you can expect the biggest names in the Latin music scene to bring you a spectacular show. Catalonia’s very own Bad Gyal, famous for her underground urban roots and dancehall fusions, brought the flava to the stage.

Its first edition was a summer success

In a world saturated with hundreds of festivals, making your live music event stand out is no easy feat. Truth is, many of those beat-fueled celebrations never reach a second edition because of the fierce competition.

After attending Tomorrowland and Ultra for years, the music-loving community doesn’t really want to get out of their comfort zone.

But Big Sound was an exception. Instead of playing the multi-genre card, the festival focused on a money-making niche. Not long after the final artists took a bow, the founders announced that Big Sound will return for a second edition.

Children can attend the festival for free

Since music isn’t an adult-only affair, Big Sound allows any age group on its premises.

Children of up to six years get free access, but they have to be accompanied at all times by their parent or legal guardian.

Half of the rule applies to music fans under 18. While they have to pay for their tickets, they also need to come with a legal representative – be it a parent or sibling.
